Thank you for your support!
Dear visitors, dear members, and dear donors,
we would like to sincerely thank everyone for the many donations made in the form of food, toys, blankets, and especially monetary donations this year.
Through the call for necessary renovations, we received additional donations, which we used for the insulation of the ceiling in the house, energy-saving lighting, a new coat of paint in the dog corridor and office, and a new window in the cat house. Many of these works were carried out by ourselves.
The facade at the entrance of the animal shelter had to be completely redone because the tiles were chipping off, and several cracks in the facade led to moisture entering the masonry. A big thank you to the specialist company Betzel from Kriftel, with whom we managed to implement this project.
There are still more construction sites in the coming year, such as insulating and painting the cat indoor enclosures, replacing the wooden ceiling and insulation in the kitchen and corridors, renovating the dog kennels in the outdoor area, new roof windows for the office, and much more, for which we are of course still dependent on your support.
Once again, THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

Our History
The animal protection association was founded on 24.11.1962 with about 20 members. The initiative came from private individuals at the time, and animal protection was carried out in or from their own homes. A central accommodation – that is, an animal shelter – was not yet feasible at that time. In the seventies, activities declined sharply.

Nevertheless, in 1978 the construction of a kennel facility began – initially with 6 dog kennels – in the open field, without water and electricity supply.
1980 saw a "renaissance" of the animal protection association driven by the Hattersheim mayor Winterstein.
At that time, the association already had around 150 members.
1985 the first chairman, Mr. Eberhard Günther, pushed through the construction project "animal shelter" despite great resistance. With great commitment from the active members, the animal shelter building was erected stone by stone and largely on their own. In 1992, the animal shelter was finally inaugurated, under the motto "small but nice".
1996 Helmut Nadwornicek took over the position of first chairman.
1999 The animal shelter could no longer cope with the small animal flood. The animal shelter building was expanded to include the small animal house – again with the active involvement of the volunteer staff.
2000 Even the possibility of accommodating the dogs reached our (capacity) limits. The outdoor kennel facility was expanded by four more dog kennels.
To this day, many more – sometimes sweat-inducing – measures have been taken, especially for the maintenance and care of the animal shelter and the outdoor facilities. In this regard, we welcome any active support. Also financially. Currently, the association has around 500 members (trend declining).
